Comprehension Baby Christening, Communion And Baptism
Christening originates from the Greek word, "ped", meaning "child". Another term is adopted from the Latin word "credo" that means "I believe", a tradition where only individuals who declare their belief in Jesus are baptized and hence are welcomed into the world of Christianity.
The religious reason of christening is to ensure that the child is given a name and begins the journey of a strong belief in religion. Now-a-days, christening is organized to gather friends and family to welcome the new-born. Another motivating factor is that being a part of the church may assist the child secure admission in the local educational institute affiliated with the church.
A Question to Baby Christening and Baptism
Based on the premise of having faith in Jesus Christ and apologizing for our sins, baby baptisms are questioned. However to overcome this situation, parents are opting to have their child blessed by the priest but do not make any promises for the child. As the child grows and grasps the true meaning of baptism, parents organize the ceremony for their child.
How is Baptism Organized?
Christening ceremonies differ for diverse religions. But amongst the most frequently used methods of christening are effusion which is pouring water on the head of the child and aspersion, which is sprinkling the child with water. Some religions go to the lengths of fully submerging the child in water. After either of these methods is completed, the officiating priest in the Catholic Church says "I baptize you in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit".
How to Reserve the Service
As a first step, parents need to contact the local clergy. The local clergy will inform you whether the communion will be conducted during Sunday sermon or as a separate service on another day. The priest will require details, such as names of godparents, the parents' religious beliefs and their baptism.
How to Choose Godparents and Outfit for the Ceremony
Traditionally, parents choose those among their close ones who have a strong religious base and can assist the child on religion during the child's development. It is common to have two godmothers and one godfather for girls and two godfathers and one godmother for boys.
According to tradition, the child is dressed in long white or off-white baptism robe. Many a times, the christening outfit is preserved and passed from one generation to the next generation.
The Rite
When organized as a private ceremony, guests should make it a point to reach the church on time. During the service, all guests are collected surrounding the communion font. The gathering is lead by the parents and godparents. The priest provides a paper with the words to be spoken by the godparents at the ceremony. Generally the ceremony is completed within half an hour.
As a way to make your child feel safe in the future, parents organize baptisms for their children. As baby christening, communion and baptism affiliates the child with a church, the child is given an opportunity to find his individual self and a full religious belief.
