Why a Quality Leather Photo Album Is A Better Choice Than The More Affordable Albums On Offer
Home and family are impossible to separate, and it is only logical that reminders and memories of the members of a family are displayed. When one thinks of the ways in which this can be accomplished, the photo album is the first to come to mind, where snapshots of family life can be kept safe for decades. However, the quality of the album is important, and in that respect a real leather photo album is the best to choose.
As gift ideas go, real leather items are hard to better though it always depends on the particular interests of the lucky receiver. For the creative amongst us, even simple wax sticks to be used in arts and crafts are prized, as unique seals can be created to embellish letters, envelopes and other items. When one sees globes for sale, it can be hard to ignore the opportunity to enhance a study or living room with an item so closely associated with broad knowledge, and even serve as a casual educational tool.
However, while both of these ideas are fine examples of the ideal personal gift, the leather album enjoys a more substantial status. Perhaps, it is as a result of the fact that wax and globes are tools to use, whereas the album represents something more long lasting and is associated with more intimate subjects, whether family, friends or more romantic links.
Photo albums come in a wide variety of styles, but quality can easily be spotted, not just because of the higher price range that it tends to be in. The highly affordable cardboard backed photo albums, so prominent in high street book stores and stationary shops, tend to have limited lives. This is why the real leather option is worth the investment.
It is worth noting, however, that a photo album does not have to be the large, hardback book that it stereotypically is. In fact, there is a range of options, in terms of design and materials, from hardbacked leather to softbacked leather books, and even suede, linen and cotton made. Which one to choose comes down to a number of personal preferences.
The popularity of leather is not hard to understand. It has a classic appearance, with the covers of hardback albums often embossed with designs that enhance the effect further, even perhaps adding a biblical feel. Leather has a permanency that other materials do not have, though the coloured suede and delicately styled linen albums have their own gentle qualities.
Amongst the best examples of quality real leather albums are those produced by the manufacturing company, Nkuku. Their Kubu leather album is soft leather, but its dark, earthy, tough appearance resembles the journals and books of the Middle Ages. Inside, the cotton paper on which photographs are attached has torn edges, while the album itself is fastened closed with a thin leather strap, rather than a clip.
If the rough and tumbled look is not desired, but instead something more feminine, then a Sawali leather album is ideal. Its softback leather covers comes in a cheerful sky blue. Its pages are also acid free to protect photographs, while the album is closed with a leather strap too. With a more inviting appearance, this type of album is ideally used to archive photographs of special occasions such as a birth, or perhaps chronicle a child history as he or she grows up from infancy.
Clearly, the leather photo album is amongst the finest gift ideas to buy, particularly when the receiver is a new mother, a newly married couple or even someone who has just retired. And the knowledge that a finely made album can survive decades of use, and store precious memories safely for generations, means that they are well worth the little extra paid.
It may not be exactly the same as buying wax sticks for the creative amongst us, or as getting a globe for the more worldly focused of us, but a photo album made of quality leather is something special. Of course, it does not mean that the next time one sees globes for sale that they should pass by, as even the most intrepid of us require a route to photography. In fact, the soft leather Kubu album is perfect for the traveller.

Does anyone have ideas what I can do with it?
I've considered attaching it to a journal or photo album or something like that, but it's 12 x 15 inches, so it's a little too big.
So yeah, any ideas welcome as I'm completely stumped with what to do with it; I don't just want to give it to him in a frame, as he can't hang it on the wall due to awkward circumstances (a VERY long story...)
Thanks! ^__^
Wow..that's pretty awesome...how about hemming the edges & sewing it to the back of a jean jacket or vest (but that might require laundering)
or you could find a small square table & place it under a piece of glass cut to size for the top
Too bad he can't hang it on the wall, it would make a great framed piece.
